“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Have you ever heard the phrase “actions speak louder than words”? Well, here in Matthew is the epitome of that phrase.
When we choose to live our lives in accordance with God’s plan, we radiate light. When we choose to love the unlovable, we radiate light. We when don’t boast in our own accomplishments, we radiate light. When we go the extra mile to help someone, we radiate light.
The verses leading up to this specific verse in Matthew say, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”
God has given us each specific and special gifts to use toward the betterment of the Kingdom. When we realize those gifts and choose to use them in accordance with God’s plan, other people see that. They see the light, or other words, they see that little thing that sets us apart from the droning familiarity of our culture. They see that spark in us that makes them want to know more. Choosing to be a light in a dark world could make the difference in someone’s life. Choose to not hide yours, but put it on a stand to give everyone the light that Jesus has destined for us.
